Dad's Cornet

It was absolutely wonderful to hear Dad’s cornet being played. It sounded fantastic, no one would ever know it had been sitting in its case for years(by the way, it is a cornet). I took it to a friend of mine, whose husband plays all sorts of trumpets and cornets. He loves to play, and plays professionally whenever he can, while being a full time teacher. As he played, I felt so close to dad. I could easily picture myself and dad years ago, when dad was showing me how to play a few notes. Dad picked up his cornet as if he was saying hello to an old friend. It became a part of him in no time, he put his three fingers on the 1st 2nd and 3rd valves and started to play a quick melody. I watched him with admiration, wanting to pick it up like he did and simply play effortlessly. However I hadn’t understood the real effort that I would need to make one single note. I may have been full of hot air, but I still couldn’t blow that wonderful instrument just right. I therefore gave up pretty quickly on playing the cornet. Dad could play so easily, and yet the playing came to a stop. I think it would have been wonderful, to have had a family music night, with Dad playing his cornet and mom playing the piano. That would have been pretty cool.

A HAPPY HALLOWEEN

There were plenty of events for the kids. It was fun to watch them enjoy 3-4 days of halloween fun. With games to win prizes, a puppet show, fun in the pumpkin patch picking our pumpkins and going down a huge slide!! Then of course the Trick or treating - which started in the afternoon here with the downtown stores giving out candy. And then continued on until past dark. MAN OH MAN, I think all the kids got their holiday supply of candy, thats for sure. All the kids costumes were so fun to see. Of course our grandkids were the cutest. LOL
